Johanna, there's nothing wrong with this word. You CAN use it referring to a headgear and nobody would raise an eyebrow no matter how prude people surrounding you would be.

Only, as Zaya said, this word is also a slang euphemism for a certain part of female body.
There's more, you can also use this word to describe a woman whose mental abilities raise certain doubts or whose temper had seen better days.
This is why your original post was so funny.

It was something like 'The drunk b.tch got lost!' (well, almost, but ruder).

Older people would use another word though which is probably even ruder, but this is a subject of another thread.


As for the female pilots you cannot say летчица about an astronaut. It would be женщина-космонавт. There's no shorter alternative, i'm afraid.

Yes, it would. That's the point. Some even add 'Тупая ...'.

There are professions that can be made only by female. The nouns for these professions don't have masculine variants:

Concerning the word космонавт and its impossibility of being of a female gender. Here's a joke:
