The declension of this word is just a hell for all who are trying to learn Russian:

The 75% of the declension is just out of nowhere and not based on any rules.

Nah... Seems standard to me, at least the way I learned it. Stress is on the end which explains the ё's, everything else is just feminine soft stem style stuff. The disappearing ь must be a thing with the ей ending.
