Thread: рассказывать_рассказать

Hi folks. I wonder if anyone can help with my grammar problems.

In many texts I'm told that these verbs are followed by o + prep but in one of my books I read

Игорь рассказывает, как он будет свой отпуск.

So what's the explanation? More 'exceptions'?

That is not an exception. There is no "o" in your sentence. If there was you could use the prepositional case.

Он рассказывает о поездке.

I think he is saying that he was told that the verb рассказывать always is followed by o + prep. That is not the case, compare:

He tells us about his trip
Он рассказывает о поездке.

he tells us how he drank vodka
Он рассказывает, как он пил водку.

о = about. So it is only used in sentences that would be translated as "about"

The sentence is incorrect
