    плавать vs. плыть?

    Both are imperfect meaning to swim, float, sail. Is there any difference in their usage?

    Same as between "ходить" и "идти", "бегать" и "бежать", etc. In other words, the difference beween multidirectional/non-unidirectional verbs on one hand, and unidirectional verbs on the other hand. I am sure you have already encountered such verbs .
