Yup. They're the same thing; I know because I recently asked this very same question:

Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.

"Девчонка" sometimes can sound a bit rude. For example:
(What a nasty girl!), but:
Какая хорошая девочка! (What a good girl!).
And one more case:
Than you introduce your g/f to your mother, she (the mother) can say:
"Какая симатичная девочка!" (What a pretty girl!).
But your friend, more likely, would say "симпатичная девчонка".
Please, correct my mistakes, except for the cases I misspell something on purpose!
Send me a PM if you need me.
I would like to add to the previous points.Originally Posted by sperk
The word 'девчонка' is probably more common in the expression: моя девушка. Моя девочка seems very outdated nowadays. Though you can still hear it.
