Thread: все же / еше

I was talking to a Russian speaker, and she said that she has never heard someone use "все же" as "yet", but people use "еше"


I said "Я не говорю по-русский все же..."
and she said to say "Я еше не говорю по-русский..."

The translator I use doesn't come up with anything for еше, though. Not that I don't believe her, of course I know she is right, but is все же like classic or something?

Все же has to do with the continuation of an action("still"). If I'm not wrong, someone posted on this exact subject not long ago.

Всё же ~ всё таки ~ однако ~ тем не менее - all the same, nevertheless.

Try еще instead of еше.

Еще is used all the time by people who don't want to type or write letter ё.

If you're fluent in russian (or really good) you can get away with not typing ё or know when its supposed to be used when someone wrote e instead, but while you're learning its best to use it as much as possible so u know where it goes.

Better yet, if you're not fluent in Russian, like me, you can just type "е" everywhere and get away with it.

Russians tend to use the two dots in handwriting more than in printed text. Like on the Russian keyboard, the Ё all the way up there in the corner by itself.

Speaking of, which is the key on an American keyboard for Ё? I bought a set of cyrillic stickers to put on the keyboard, and it didn't include Ё. I searched for it for a while when I wrote my previous post, and ended up copying it from another post...

I have it on the upper row, the first key from the left: `~. ёЁ

It is on the upper left--with the tilde (~) and the backtick (`); below <ESC> and to the right of !/1. "Ё" is with the <SHIFT> depressed, and "ё" isn't, of course. That's if you're using the same keyboard I am, anyway. (A "standard" Russian one set up on Windows, not a homophonic one.) You ought to printout your keyboard, uppercase & lowercase, so you have it to refer to. It helps especially with the special characters.
