    "Я служу России"

    hi,
    is this translation right.

    Не надо забывать солдата
Лучшая награда для него, когда ты
    Письма шлёшь с ответом
    Сквозь дожди косые
    Шлёт слова простые
    "Я служу России"

    don't forget the soldier
the best award for him is when you
send a letter with an answer
    through the slanting rain
    he sends simple words
    i serve russia
Кому - нары, кому - Канары.

Sounds good but I have a couple of minor suggestions.

Maybe it is better to say "pouring rain" since "slanting rain" sounds a bit strange in English.

I would also say "reward" rather than "award".
    Я взял палку и нож, мелки и бумагу и направился к холмам.

Structurally, it is correct but maybe " I am serving Russia" is better here? And, don't forget your upper case letters
Well, I don't know what to say. I want to say thanks to the Academy, to Mama, to Papa and to my dog. I love you all.

But "award" is more of a military term.

Yes, but награда here is not a medal or smth. It doesn't relate to his service in military but just a reward in a general sense.
Send me a PM if you need me.

Indeed, "reward" is a better term in this context. It represents much more than just an award, a medal, or whatever... It is something like satisfaction...
