    to talk
    In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    OK, you really need to learn how to deconstruct words to work out their meanings. This is a really basic word.

    You do this by removing prefixes and suffixes, basically looking for the root of the word.

    Dictionaries aren't big enough to fit every single form of a word in them, every prefix or suffix.

    поговорить
    по- is a prefix
    говорить = to talk.

    If you actually are learning Russian, you should know говорить this.

    поговорить = to talk / to have a talk / to talk for a little while

    Incendium, I recommend a copy of a book like 501 Russian Verbs by Thomas R. Beyer, Jr ISBN # 0-7641-1349-6.

    If you cannot find this one, there are several variants.

    Basically, it gives you all the forms of the confusing Russian verbs, along with an index which makes finding them easier.

    Good luck!

    Um, the verb поговорить is in no way a confusing verb, it is a really basic word, and getting 501 Russian Verbs will only lead to the person becoming lazy and not try and work out the meaning for themselves. They need to get a good grammar book and study verb prefixes.

    Well at least the book explains the concept of perfective and imperfective that the poster would need to learn. In fact, it is a pretty good book (have it myself), esp. when you need to know how to спрягать a particular irregular verb...
