that's an example of how math courses are named. The term "higher math" is not specific enough to have a separate course.

Кому - нары, кому - Канары.
Economics departments might put on courses like Mathematical Methods, Mathematics for Economists, etc.. Seems like each university has their own system.

That is the main point. If you look to any Russian university courses for the students of Math or Physics departments you'll never find this "Higher Math". You'll find the same old courses: Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Functional Analysis etc. But if you'll look to a department which is not intended to make its students gurus in math (such as History or Economics departments) you'll find only one course for basic mathematics in Russian this course called as "Higher Math" (Высшая математика).Originally Posted by sperk

Except that such a course in Economics department may last 2-3 years and will include a bunch of courses that each have their own name in the Mathematics department. So "высшая математика" or "вышка" may include (using the above link).... Calculus I, Calculus II (with probability and matrices), Analytical methods in economics, Calculus III, Calculus IV, Discrete Mathematics I, Discrete Mathematics II, Number theory, Differential Equations, Introduction to Probability, and so on.
