How would any of you native (or fluent) Russian speakers translate this word if it were said to you?:
напиваться
to get drunk
OK, thank you. That's what I thought.
Guys, guys, easy!
"напиваться" literally means "to to quench thirst", not necessary with alcohol :D
You're right. But the first translation that comes into my head when I hear the word напиваться (without any context) is to get wasted.
I read this thread yesterday and I didn't even think that there might be other translations
Is there a more specific version of "to get drunk"? For instance, in Spanish they have "beber" for "to drink (anything)" and "emborracharse" for "to get drunk".
There is no special polite word, but there are plenty of more or less rude slang words, which were recently named in some other topic (such as: нажраться, набухаться, нахряпаться, нализаться, ужраться в хлам, нахрюкаться, наклюкаться и т.п.) :lol:Quote:

Here's a complete dictionaty of synonims for "напиться".
How do you know it's complete?
Honestly, there are a lot of words I never use on that website. So don't take it serious.
"Намотать БФ на сверло" is my favorite.

You guys are confusing me, so I'm going to stick to напиваться for now. :?
I was intending to use it as the first definition provided in this thread stated: to get drunk. 8)
Don't worry about it, it's just a stupid phrase. Nobody talks that way.Quote:

AS far as I understand this BF is some kind of glue and if you drill in it (or something like it) it turns into pure alcohol?
We demand an explanation! :D
Lol ok
This glue's based on alcohol and when you dip a long rotating drill into it, all the phenolformaldehyde resin from the glue will be twisted around the drill. You take the drill with the resin out and drink the alcohol.
PS: меняю банку БФ-2 на бутылку Aquavit ;)
My God, who on Earth discovered that? Man, you Russians would do anything for a drink
Well, it was a hard period in the morden Russian history (AKA "угар перестройки"). Gorbachev and the Co started the so called "борьба с пьянством". It was not exactly the Prohibition but something quite close. And this ingenious :) invention (among others) was the "asymmetrical response" to this  .Quote:
