Basically it's a software for instant messaging, IP-telephony and such. You may chat with you friends online (like in ICQ or MSN messenger), or talk to anybody who has Skype installed via microphone (you pay only for Internet traffic), or to make phone calls (for additional pay) or arrange video conferences. You may also transfer files... Maybe something else...
I use it fairly often, but mostly for chatting and file transfering.
You may download a trial version: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/
Re: What to do? So confused ...
emeraldeyez, let me make some corrections, if you don't mind...

Okay now this is too funny.... emeraldeyez... MD as in Maryland??? You say there is a large Russian community here??? :search:
And me living a good portion of my life here have YET to meet a single Russian!!!! Is it because I am too old and living under a rock somewhere? All around me I meet people from almost everywhere... yet no one has ever claimed Russia to be their motherland. My Hubby says "one" works with him, yet I have not met him yet so I am not certain he really exists... he might just be teasing me.

Oh ... so we are neighbors eh? MD yes as in Maryland. I am in Baltimore County to be more exact. LOL
Actually in Pikesville/Reisterstown area there is a HUGE russian community. Also DC has a fairly large network of russians too. Quite a few russian restaurants, grocery stores etc ... I never in all my years here had met any UNTIL I took up ballroom dance lessons. Then it was like everywhere I turned I kept meeting other russians. (or rather russians, belorussians, ukraine, etc ...) I know alot of the younger crowd. Like between the ages of 20 and 28. But they are to young for me to hang out with. I am 38 and well ... it just would not feel right. LOL
You should call me or write me or something. It'd be fun! :)
Re: What to do? So confused ...
emeraldeyez, why do all those russian people do for living in your area? What kind of jobs are available for them?

I can only guess that they do what anyone does.
Some have certain niches they have filled like ballroom dancing, or translation services. Others once they learn english well enough acquire jobs like the rest of us do.
But most of who I know personal are ballroom instructors, others I know work for the government at Lockheed Martin or Social Security Administration and yet others I know own their own businesses. So ... it is like well ... anyone.
Re: What to do? So confused ...
Have you tried any of these people?
http://baltimore.craigslist.org/search/ ... ry=russian
You may want to post there yourself, offer a trade of English/Russian language practice. That's what I did (in my area) and I found several people to practice with for free.
