    What IS this?

    privet bufet

OK Privet I know is HI but bufet?

    буфет <- this is what I get when I de-transliterate ...

then I go to dictionary ... the closest I find to this word is:
буфера (f) [bufera]: Breasts – “buffers”.

Um is he saying what I think he is saying or something else?

    Help?

He doesn't really mean that. The word "bufet" (буфет) rhymes with "privet" (привет), so nothing offensive (unless you find it attractive of course ). Another common example is wishing farewell in the following way: "Chao-kakao" (чао-какао).

Is there a meaning to it with the rhyming?

    Re: What IS this?

    Буфет = "a bar, a cafeteria, a counter" or "a sideboard".
It has nothing to do with breasts.

No meaning and no offence. Just a childish rhyme.

PS. "Буфет" is a common word and I'm surprised it's not in your dictionary (while "буфера" which is slangish are there). What dictionary are you using?

    and then ...

    буфера (f) [bufera]: Breasts – “buffers”. from - http://www.russki-mat.net/

another friend told me that he was speaking slang so this is what I came up with. So my one friend helping to translate what the other said was just making fun of my ignorance. LOL

Just answer back "privet" and see how childish he could get. The sooner you learn that the better ..

It is old traditional and always popular joke greeting.
Привет, буфет! is just a new insipid calque of "Здарово, корова!"

Здорово! is an abbreviation of Здравствуй!

    (Hi, cow!)

I must thank you again for this!

He LOVED it. He was laughing so hard and wanted to know where I got this.

He liked it so much he showed another friend of his and his friend laughed too.

    Thank you!

    I wrote several posts before.
( meaning: "Hi, have you got any booze to drink?" (jokingly))

Zdorovo! Ty byk a ja korova. Ty bryk a ja v aryk.
Hi! You're a bool and I'm a cow. You kick and I fall down to the irrigation canal.

    Zdravstvuj, zdravstvuj, drug prekrasnyj!
    Greetigs, greetings, fine friend.

    Nashe vam s kistochkoj.
Ours to you with a tassel.
(Comic greeting. I have no idea about origin and literal meaning.)

    Privet, valet!
    Hi, knave!
(Here "knave" has only a meaning of a card between "queen" and "10")

    Trjam!
(Nonsence greeting from the old soviet animated cartoon.)

I tebe togo zhe v obratnyj zad b trojnom razmere.
To your backward hind the same tripled.
"Россия для русских" - это неправильно. Остальные-то чем лучше?

Sorry, but this one is absolutely horrible and vaguely offending.
Moreover, what you so tactfully translated "To your backward hind" in my opinion is slightly veiled "the same up your ass tripled".

Yes, this ambiguity can be accepted as offence. Don't use in public speeches!
