    Translation please.

    I apologize... I have tried unsuccessfully to get my keyboard to type in Russian so I'm trying another way. These characters are cut & paste from a Russian translation program. Hopefully you can understand this.

    I recently bought a copper ladle/cup with handle with an engraved brass plate with the following inscription. Can you help me to translate it?

    лампа чудо

    TTO - МюллE ¬
    (There’s a dot under the first T & the last symbol is actually flipped the opposite way with the down stroke on left rather than right)

    E Рлин

    According to a Russian translation website, the first two words are "lamp" and "miracle". Is that correct?

    I couldn't find any words for the others. Could they be names?

    Thanks so much in advance for any information.

    A couple of hits in Google - auctions but it's been sold, so no longer online.

    Лампа «ЧУДО», BERLIN Лампа керосиновая изготовлена из латуни

    Лампа "чудо" , Отто Мюллер. Берлин. (Б), 300.00 р.

    made by Otto Muller of Berlin (your second piece of inscription).

    Kerosine brass lamp, don't know what it's got to do with ladles/cups.

    Thanks, Chiaka. Would you check to see if I'm understanding you correctly.

    лампа = lamp

    чудо = kerosene

    тто = Otto

    мюлле = Muller

    ерлин = Berlin

    This actually creates more questions!

    Otto Muller was known for lithographs and prints. This is a copper cup with handle. Strange!

    Why would a German man sign a piece in Russian?

    Thanks again.

    Чудо is the name of the lamp and means miracle

    Maybe there are more than one Otto Mullers?

    I know this is a really old post but I happen to have the same thing described above. I have been told that it's a "handymans" job and someone cut the piece from an old lamp and made the rest. Maybe, but it seems odd that there would be another one just like it. (Or, this guy had the one that I now have)

    I have posted some pics here if anyone is interested or could provide any additional information I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    John

    It looks like a dipper-ladle made of some materials found on the spot, probably has nothing related with the signature on the metal plate in the front.

    I have the exact same thing - a copper dipper with the same brass triangle on the front - I have found one other for sale, but the handle is slightly different - I have found the translation as Otto Mueller Miracle Lamp - but have no idea what it has to do with any of the Otto Mueller lamps - there are obviously more of these, and they have been made for a purpose, but what? They were made for some sort of liquid, as mine has been fixed with brazing on the seam on the back. A lady (Taylors antiques) has one for sale on Ebay in Florida, but she is calling it a Greek dipper for $US 299.99 - definitely not greek.

    With it being translated to something similar to a "miracle lamp", I'm just wondering if its an imitation piece to replicate the lamp from the Disney movie, Aladdin?

    What does Otto Mueller have to do with Disney? Why are there more than one, and each slightly different? One post said that the triangle piece was a patch, but there was no damage where the triangle piece is.

    Давным-давно по улицам ездил старый еврей на повозке и продавал керосин для керосиновых ламп, примусов и керогазов. Этим сосудом он доставал керосин из бочки и одновременно это служило мерной ёмкостью. Она была изготовлена из латуни, бронзы или меди для того, чтобы при ударе об железную бочку не создавалась искра и чтоб не произошёл пожар.
