Translation Help
My wife and I adopted an 8 year old from Kharkov, Ukraine last week. Unfortunately the judge did not waive the 30 day wait period and we had to leave her behind. I am quickly trying to learn how to write in Russian, but would like to ask for help in translating the following for a postcard I want to send her. Thank you for any help!
Jim
Dear Katya,
This picture is of the U.S. Capital in Washington, DC. I was recently in Washington, DC for a business trip and was thinking of you.
I hope you are well. We will return to Ukraine within a couple of weeks to bring you home with us.
We miss you and love you.
Dad

Дорогая Катя,
Это фотография Вашингтона, столицы Соединённых Штатов.(i guess U.S. Capital in Washington, DC says nothing to her). Я был в Вашингтоне в командировке и всё время думал о тебе.
Надеюсь что у тебя всё в порядке. Мы вернёмся на Украину через пару недель и заберём тебя домой с нами.
Твой папа.

Awww. A translation request that, for once, I can't mock. Best of luck to you, calumet.

There are 2 different words--capital and capitol.
Capital==1.seat of national government
2.money or other economic resources
capitol=building that houses leading government institutions.
If the picture is of the capitol building (seat of congress), and not an overview of Washington, D.C., you'd say это фотография Каритолийского холма (здание конгресса).

send your postcard in an envelope for a better chance of delivery. I used to send postcards by the dozens and they never made it to the addressee. It seems somebody in Moscow post office has a California collection :wink: .
