я пишу эссе = I'm doing an essay
я пишу эссе на английском = I'm doing an English essay
мне нужна твоя/ваша помощь = I need your (familiar/polite-or-plural) help

P.S. counter question is "an English essay" the same as "essay on English"?

If I heard "an English essay" I would take it to mean that it was an essay either for English class, or possibly an essay written by an English person. Whereas I think "an essay on English" implies that the essay is about some kind of English linguistics.

Lindzi is right. "An essay on English" means that the essay is about english.

As I translated it, "an English essay" means "an essay written in English"? I was not sure that was correct. That's just my best guess.

я пишу эссе на английском = I'm doing an English essay

What makes "an essay for English class" different from mini-essay on "English linguistics" or even literature? Don't they study literature and the basics of English linguistics in the English class?
