Русский язык имеет много оттенков. Russian has many shades.

Я тебя ЛЮБЛЮ. I love you.
Я люблю ТЕБЯ. (только тебя) (only you)
Люблю я тебя. (дура ты, не видишь мою любовь) (a silly woman you, do not see my love)
Тебя Я люблю. (другой тебя любить не может, только я) (another cannot love you, only ...)
Тебя-я-я люблю я-я-я. (объяснение в любви, в состоянии алкогольного опьянения) (a declaration of love, in a condition of alcoholic intoxication)

P.S. Устал я от таких объяснений.
    Пойду, кому-нибудь скажу

i'm tired of people saying я люблю вас. it doesn't even make sense, i mean, it does, but, no it doesn't. you would not tell somone you don't know, or are on a strictly business basis with that you love them. a few months ago, we were having elections at our school for ASB officers, and one of the kids wanted to say vote for me, in all the langauges of people that attent our school, (which is quite a few, including russian, vietnamise, laoasian, spanish, tongan, samoan, ukrainian, and i think theres a few german kids, but they already speak english) anyways. when it came to russian he said exactly that "ya loobloo vas" and afterwards i was askign my friends, does that even make sense, i mean, it does, but would anybody ever say it ? and they said, no it is stupid and sounds gay, and no normal person that is not on any medication would ever say it. so please, stop giving people retarted information, thanks.
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!

ok, given that the speaker is from ural, russia (assuming they arent lying), i think they might know a little more about the language than you or maybe even your friends who are being raised in america. What if you wanted to say it to more than one person???

What if you wanted to tell your grandmother that you love her. Im assuming that would be vas as well.

It's been my experience that the Russians who move away from Russia aren't really all that great for asking questions, because their knowledge of grammatical construction and syntax and vocabulary and so on are supplemented by conversations with other emigrants and listening to exported music/tv/film/literature, not by the constant immersion in the language and school classes that a native Russian still living there would be required to take. It's like asking someone who moved away from the US at the age of 9 to South America to explain dangling participles to you. Unless he heard it on tv or from his parents or something chances are his answer isn't going to be deeply profound and well-researched. He'll just say, "I don't know, but they sound 'gay.' Don't use them."

being that you aren't an 'expert' in the language yourself, dogboy, it is a bit rude to tell someone(who is a native speaker of rusian) trying to be helpful "stop giving people retarded information." what is it with people just starting to learn a language, that suddenly they think they're experts and can just tell everyone off who says something they think is wrong? or maybe that's just teenagers who start learning languages. but then again, i'm a teenager, and i don't act like that. hopefully.

вас in addition to formal is also what you use to adress more than one person. it is like french vous or spanish usted.

    Мухаммед(к женам): Я люблю вас!

sometimes singers or whatever who give a concert will say "I LOVE YOU!" to the crowd. he is of course adressing more than one person, so if he was russian he would say Я люблю вас!!!! And of course he doesn't really mean he intimately loves each and every person there. It's just some superficial thing people say. Likewise your friend trying to get elected or whatever might tell the crowd I LOVE YOU!

hope that is cleared up, but please check your attitude dogboy, you really offend people like that, especailly when they are just trying to help(and know better than you do). as someone who is a BEGINNER in russian, you should be extremely careful about anything you say about it, ESPECIALLY if you are contradicting a native speaker.i certainly wouldn't insult a native speaker and say he had "retarded" russian. although you arent nearly as bad as mr. Brandon8.

btw, i think drew's guess was perfectly understandable - in some cultures the elders are adressed with formal forms. in thai for example we are always very polite with the elder relatives and we would never say equivalent of ты to them.

1.Where he is from: i didn't think anybody looked at that.
    2. more than one person: why not just say хей ребята!! i mean, that's why they made the word anyway.
    3. rude: i don't care.
    4. alex (мой best друг) moved from moscow in april:i think he hasn't lost his grip on russian yet.
    5. why would you refer to you grandma as вы: she bakes you cookies
    6. i never claimed to be an expert: just trying not to sound like a llama when i communicate.
    7. i don't have an attitude: would you rather i woulda've said "Gay" ?
    8. i am not an expert and i do not claim to be: but i am not a begginer either .
    9. if you wanted to say i love you "all", use vso. or say, every body! kazhdi kazhdi! i mean, thats why they made plurals anyways.

на конец, прости меня если ТЫ думала? что я сказал что ты "retarted" i wasn't. but serously, 99 percent of the time, poeple just want to tell their russian boyfriend that they love them in на русском, and saying ya loobloo vas, will probly just give them a good luagh, but hey, тебя probly would too.
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!

    2. more than one person: why not just say хей ребята!! i mean, that's why they made the word anyway.
ah you don't get it. if you want to say i love you(pl.) you don't say
я люблю "хэй ребята". "хэй ребята" means like "hey guys!" ребята alone means like "the guys, the lads", я люблю ребяту wouldn't mean "I love you guys." i guess it would mean sort of "i love the guys" like you were referring to your buddies or something. but it would not carry meaning "YOU". on the other hand if you said "хэй ребята, я люблю вас" then that would work. but i guess you would only say that if you were drunk or something.

    9. if you wanted to say i love you "all", use vso. or say, every body! kazhdi kazhdi! i mean, thats why they made plurals anyways.
я люблю все means I love everybody/everything. does not carry connotation of YOU. if you used каждый it would also mean "everybody" but does not specifically mean YOU.

if you are trying to say "I love YOU(more than one person)" the best and most simple way to say it is Я ЛЮБЛЮ ВАС!

Why worm your way around saying ВЫ? ВЫ simply means YOU(more than one person or formal). If I am asking all the people on this forum why they are learning russian, i would say Почему вы учите русский язык? Why are you(pl.) learning Russian?
I am not trying to be formal since I always call people(individually) on this person ТЫ. But if you are talking to more than one YOU, use ВЫ!!!!!
Я(к президенту Путину): Вы говорите по-немецки?
Я(к немецким мальчикам): Вы говорите по-немецки?
In both cases I said the same thing "You speak german?" In the first case I am talking to only one person and using Вы because he is Prseident Putin. In the second case I am talking to some german boys and asking "You speak german?" but using Вы because i am asking all of them.

can't you just admit you were wrong? if you keep trying to worm your way out of being wrong, you will never learn anything. learn from your mistakes and move on. there is nothign bad about being wrong. you just learn from it. learn how to use Вы and your russian will improve.

    7. i don't have an attitude: would you rather i woulda've said "Gay" ?
It is pretty funny that only two choices existed in your mind for adressing him. "Gay" and "Retarded." How about leaving off any insult whatsoever.

also if you are within 1 year of learning I would call that "beginner."
right now i would call myself "intermediate." maybe 4-5+ years would be advanced. not trying to insult you or anything. you never said you were an expert, but i notice you often chime into threads and post incorrect information while acting like you're absolutely sure it's correct("Thats why they made the word anyway"). If you're not sure about something don't post it. It's ok to post stuff you think might be incorrect and then ask for corrections or explanation.

If you are only learning since January, well, you cannot expect to have perfect Russian all the time! look at my исправления пожалуйста post and note all of my errors! but i notice you only ask questions etc. so that is good, as opposed to trying to answer them when you don't really know enough to.

I think you can try to learn too much too quickly. It happened when I learned japanese. I memorzied all of the hiragana and katakana(japanese alphabets, sort of) in about two days. But a week later, I had all but forgotten them. Had I taken it slowly, reviewing and practicing, I probably would still remember them.

No, i was just assuming you are one of those gay rights fanatics who wheneever somone says that is gay, i am immideatly a homophobe. actually, if i want to call somthing gay, i will. and i do not mean it has relations with the same sex. also, i never claim to be right all the time and post false information. i think that is one problem with the internet, you can never hear the tone of people emotions, it's just words. 99 percent of the time, i come off as cocky, and a snoody bastard, but really i'm relaxed and mainly pissed off and joking AT MYSELF, thats why i always use the smilies and and and , to show you people i'm not trying to be rude. when im typing things it's almost alway commicle in nature, but some people read it as another emotion, such as "i hate when u people correct me because i'm always right" ... well sorry if i came off that why. i think what i mean to say, is i'm tired of being corrected because i am disapointed in myself, and im tired of being corrected because i know all of this, why do i keep using it wrong ? when i said stop giving people retarted information, i was not trying to insult anybody. i myslef, am not insulted easy, and i guess i should just be more sensative to people f33lings
