    Ami Lauren = Эми Лорен

My guess would be: эйми лорен . Note that there is no single, unambiguous 'translation' (the correct term would be 'transliteration' or 'transcription', I think the latter is more appropriate here), since the sounds of the Russian language are different from those of the English language.

As to fonts, if you have Windows, you should be able to install International language support (read the online help about it, and note that you may need to reinsert your Windows disc) and then you will have Cyrillic fonts (the Russian alphabet is called 'Cyrillic'). You can then use an editor program of your choice for the printing.

The fonts you find with Windows are boring to say the least-- everybody and their brother uses them. Times New Roman wasn't even designed to be used for normal text, it was designed for a newspaper.

Anyway, I'd recommend a look here:

    http://www.prodtp.ru/modules.php?op=mod ... load&cid=1

for some free, original fonts. Look under рукописные for script-type fonts suitable for tatooing.

He-he, I know what you mean, "Ami Lauren will be Муххамед ибн Рауль ибн Хаттаб", that is what you wanted us to say.

    That's a keeper!
The fun is magnified when you think someone will get it on their arm(or other body part) for life! But it's all in good fun. You can just get laser removal if you don't like our translation

    I prefer Friendy's transliteration personally.

He just needs a good reason, that's all. He believes that unless you mean to convey that emotion, you needn't waste your time to insert a pointless smiley. :P

And we, Pravit, as a Paki guy said to an Indian guy, "we British must stick together".

If they pronounce the first letter in "Ami" as in "Ann" then I'd stick to my transliteration but if they do it as in "game" then I'm sticking to waxwing's.

In the US, nobody pronounces the A in Ami like Ann and I'd actually suggest waxwing's transliteration(after Propp's of course). I'm afraid that your fan base on this forum simply overpowers waxwing's, Friendy

Absolutely accurate Pravit, story of my life !
Oh I just remembered that I wanted to make a heartfelt request. I would like you, Pravit, to start an underground movement. I want you to start a revolution in electrical engineering. You have to teach these uncouth people to write i instead of j. It is heresy of the highest order and I won't tolerate it any longer!

Dear Waxwing, I don't know enough about electrical engineering to understand the subtleties of your joke! Alas, perhaps after I finish my first semester or two at university I'll be ready to initiate this revolution.

It's not that, I just figured that 'э' already had an 'й' in it at the end.

@Pravit : I'm talking about the square root of minus 1. In the engineering 'culture' it has always been written as j (presumably to avoid confusion with 'i' for current? - although it seems like capital I is more common for that .. not really sure), whereas in the 'pure maths/theoretical physics' camp it's always been i. We used to get very sniffy about books with j in them!

    @Nik: eh? ()
