There's a Russian transfer student at my school and she hardly speaks any English and I would like to know how to ask her if I may sit with her. And maybe you could give me some other suggestions on things to say to her? I've already said hi and told her my name. Thanks!
Well since Saibot has not answered you, this is what I would say, if it were me. That is, if I were the type to go around hitting on unsuspecting babes. It might not be exactly right but she would understand you. Probably!

Basically---Please, is it possible to sit here with you?
But what ever you do, do not tell her that you know me or you run the serious risk of her losing all interest in you.

I would say Можно (мне) сесть (рядом) с вами? - Is it possible (to me) to sit (near) with you? Сесть(perf) if it is a single action, сидеть (imperf) if you are going to sit with someone all the time.Quote:

The only one mistake - if you are not familiar to woman (you are useing "вы") you should not to talk about her legs. If you are familiar to her to talk about her legs you should say to her ты. :)

:o Dude, I don't think you guys realize I'm a girl. Maybe I didn't make that very clear. I don't wanna date her. It's just hard for her to talk to people since she can't speak english well and I want to make her feel welcome. I watched her at the library the other day and she was having a terrible time trying to tell the librarian that she wanted to go on a computer. I went and helped! So I do speak enough russian to make up for some of the language gaps, but it's mostly just words I can say, not sentences. It would be nice if I could ask to sit down in a full sentence, that's all. Maybe I'll think about hitting on her later. lol

тебе надо помочь? - tebe nada pomosh - Do you need help?
хочешь обедать вместе? - hoshesh obedat vmeste - Shall we have lunch?
Что ты делаешь вечером - shto ty delayesh vecherom - What are you doing in the evening?
Do you need help- Хочешь я тебе помогу?/Тебе нужна помощь?
(помочь- это глагол)
What are you doing in the evening?- Какие планы у тебя на вечер? Что ты будешь делать вечером?
(по-моему "что ты делаешь вечером" не очень хорошо звучит)
