Hi all, basic stuff I'm afraid...

Hi, I'm a newbie here so sorry for any stupid questions.

I am an Englishman in Prague but would like to be able to write some simple sentences in Russian to a Russian girl I met here. At the moment we are getting on with a mixture of broken English and broken Czech which has similarities to Russian but I would like to surprise her.

I was wondering if you have something on the site like a basic phrase FAQ so I don't have to bother you with the simple stuff I'm sure you get asked a hundred times?

I have looked at some of the online dictionaries mentioned in many of the posts below and they seem great for individual words but not for constructing sentences and phrases.

If there isn't such a resource, then maybe if one of you has time, here is pretty much what I want to write:

    "
    Hello Nadya,

    How are you today?

Would you like to meet for a coffee later this week?

Maybe we can also go dancing again.

Hope to hear from you soon.

    Bye,
    James.
    "

Thanks in advance for your time.
    James.

    Hello Nadya,
    Привет Надя,
    How are you today?
    Как дела?/Как у тебя дела?
Would you like to meet for a coffee later this week?
Давай встретимся и попьём кофе на этой неделе. (Actually this means "let's meet for a coffee this week", it seems to me "would you like..." - "не хотела(-и) бы ты(вы)..." sounds rather official in russian.)
Maybe we can also go dancing again.
    Может быть снова сходим потанцуем.
Hope to hear from you soon.
    Надеюсь вскоре услышать твой ответ.
    Bye,
    Пока,
    James.

In case you are interested she said yes, so thanks again!

Or 'diky moc!' as we say in Prague.

    Здесь небольшая опечатка...
    не "снова", а "также"

No, there is no typo here. "again"="снова". "also"="также" but here it is not necessary to translate it literally.
