Thread: help please!!

my girlfriend is russian and i dont speak very much but i hear her talk on the phone sometimes with friends and at the end of the conversation she always says da-vi....im not sure if thats a word for some form of goodbye but its prononounced like that, not sure of the spelling!! can someone please tell me what this means

It means too many things to go into too much detail, but yes, one of it's meanings is like the english "Cya later"

Loosely translated: Let's / Go ahead / Come on

Давай пить чай : Let's have some tea

-Позвоню тебе завтра
-Давай!

-I'll call you tomorrow
-"Let's!" (Go ahead)

maybe its just da-svidaniia?

At the end of conversation it is definitely "давай" and it means see ya. До свидания sounds more formal and polite and in the friends conversation it sounds unnatural.

da-vi.

Even for foreign ears, i think до свидания is too long to be confused with Давай.

"Давай" is just a key word to close an informal conversation. More complete options:

Ладно, давай, пока.
Ну давай, пока.
Ну давай, я пошёл.
