Thanks everyone for the quick response.

You know what I find odd about European airports?

In the US, you can find a electrical outlets at pretty much any airport.
However when I traveled to the Ukriane in July, there was no such outlets at the Vienna, Austria airport or any airport in the Ukraine.

Thats the same for WiFi internet connection as well. Although the airport in Odessa, Ukraine stated they had it, it never worked.

Is this common in alot of places as far as outlets and internet access?

Oh, I assure you, you won't find electrical outlets in ANY Ukrainian airport, at least not within the reach of your cord :evil: Don't count on WiFi hotspots either. They're just making their way in Ukraine, awfully slow I must admit.

In Europe electric outlets and hotspots are limited to business class lounges in most places...

Re: airports
Make sure your flight from Kiev to Mariupol takes off from the same airport. You will arrive in Borispil, and your domestic flight may take off from Zhulyany (or Airport Kyiv as it is called now), it's about 35 to 50 min away, depending on traffic.

Even if you depart from Borispil, I almost guarantee you that you will have to change terminals (within walking distance, no shuttle). You'll arrive to terminal B and will most likely take off from Terminal A (if you do depart from Borispil).

There's only a few gates (выход на посадку) at each terminal, so you won't be lost. In Borispil everything is marked in Ukrainian and in English, restrooms, customs and passport control, etc.

If you plan to use Internet/check e-mail regularly, I recommend getting a life:) GSM card. Only if you can sync your phone with your laptop (via Bluetooth or USB or Phone-2-PC cord). Ask the vendor to activate GIGAINTERNET and help you with the settings. They provide 1 Gb of traffic for 7$. At Kyivstar or UMC you will only get 7 Mb for that amount (no, this is not a typo). I use UMC as my primary cell phone, but bought life:) card just for Internet as I travel quite a bit.

On a side note.
Electricity is different in the Ukrain than in the USA. The USA uses 110-120 volts and in the Ukrain it is different.
Does anybody know where I can find a converter that converts from Ukrain electricity to USA electricity?

You don't need a converter for a laptop PC/Mac. Their power adapters work with both standards. You will just need a plug adapter. You can get it in Ukraine for less than a buck.

If you plan to bring and use other appliances in Ukraine, you WILL NEED a power adapter. You can get it in RadioShack or Fri's Electronics (if you're in the South West) or just search it on ebay if you have time.

Thanks folks, I will definetly have to check on my flights to/from Mariupol, will do that when I get home. The good news is that I remember that there is about a 5 hour layover in Kiev. I am ok with that as my last trip was terrible.

My last trip to the Ukriane, I was stuck on the tarmack in NY due to rain, we arrived a few hours late into Vienna, I had to go get my luggage and therfore missing my connecting flight. That was a 10 hour delay, talk about getting a life, they did have WiFi in Vienna but only in one lounge and they had no electrical outlets. I just needed to email some folks on me missing the flight. The also had NO way of me purchasing a SIM card for my phone either. In most airports that I had been to, you could purchase SIM cards or extra minutes etc..
So here I was with my laptop battery dead, and no phone, and no language for me either. Finally found Customer Service for the airline I was travelling with and asked them to plug my laptop for 1 hour to charge the battery, but they said no. I was astonished. They had plenty of outlets. LOL

Anyway I found a "hidden" outlet in the mens bathroom on a different level so there I was looking like a fool with my laptop plugged in for an hour while I sat there and watched it and about a hundred people walking in and out of the bathroom wondering what I was doing. Was able to get the battery charged and went to the WiFi hotspot and got my email out.

As for the Adapters I did purchase some while I was in the Ukriane the last time, and your right, they are cheaper there! I had no need for a converter although I took one with me. Will not be taking it this time, instead I will by a few more of those cheaper adapters. :)

Oh, and thats why I was asking for these phrases, I will print them out and take them with me too. I dont want to miss another plane or have something else go wrong without being prepared.

Here is another funny story about my last trip. Ok not funny at the time.

I was to get a flight from Odessa to Donetsk at 22:30. I was in Nikolaev at the time, so I took a Taxi from Nikolaev to my hotel back in Odessa.
However when we got to Odessa they had closed the main part of Odessa down due to a Soccer game. I guess 2 Rivals where playing so it was tough for me to get to my hotel. Then I could not get a taxi to pick me up at the hotel because the roads were blocked.
I had to carry all my luggage about 10 blocks(on wheels but still hard) until I could find a police man to get me a taxi. Of course he knew no English, so I called the Hotel back and asked them to tell the Officer what I needed. He flagged one down, I got to the airport around 22:00 and it looked closed. There were people in it watching the game.
I thought I missed my flight, I could not get into any gates. One lady(pretty cute I may add) told me to go stand over there and they will open the door. Well what I learned later, is that they closed the whole Airport because of this game. Everyone watching the game in the general area were workers at the airport. LOL
I could not believe they closed an Airport to watch Soccer, that goes to show you how important Soccer was to these folks. My flight left around 00:30 and got into Donetsk about 02:30 that morning. I then needed a taxi to Mariupol. I decided to get a hotel in Donetsk, we went to a couple of Hotels but the Power was out in the city. LOL Just my luck.
I was able to get one of the hotel workers that knew english to ask the driver if he would take me to Mariupol, sure enough to my surprise he drove me all the way to Mariupol. I got my hotel, in which they were very nice to check me in around 5 in the morning, and they DID NOT charge me for that day. Here in the states, they would have charged me for that night regardless of what time it was.
Oh and it was the first time I had been in a country/city, with NO hot water. Yes this American was not used to cold showers.
Oh well, visiting the Ukraine was all worth it.

That is something I hear for the first time: airport shut down over a soccer game! What year was that?? They obviously didn't expect too many passengers (there was probably only one flight for the whole Odesa airport at that time of night).

I like soccer too, but it was getting late!

The cost of the Taxi from Donetsk to Mariupol was $60 USD.
And yes he seemed happy, I was just surprised he was willing to do that at 3 in the morning. However I have never seen as many Taxi drivers in one country as I did in the Ukraine. I guess it is similiar to NY.

I could not find a taxi in my US city if my life depended on it. LOL

I dont know if they liked me at that Hotel or felt sorry for me as I was draggin my butt in at 5 in he morning and did not look like I had slept for days!


Yes the trip was great, I got to see alot of the Ukraine, actually a great place. I never felt out of place(other then at the airport during the soccer match), so everyone seemed very friendly and did not make me feel out of place.
The food was terribly cheap everywhere in the Ukraine, everything else seemed to be about the same price as in the US.

Oh and my trip was this past July, 2006 so just a few months ago. :)

I believe that flight was either July 15th or 16th if someone is interested in finding out what Soccer match it actually was. Seems the folks at the airport where excited but I did not watch the end of the match.
Just imagine about 50 people trying to watch a 25 inch TV. LOL

Also when I arrived in Donetsk a 2nd plane arrived within minutes of us.
It was a soccer team, everyone was looking at them like big stars, I had no idea so I dont know if that was the team that just played.

It was Shakhtar (Donetsk) vs. Dynamo (Kiev), and yes, it's one of the few sporting events when places get shut down in this country :D :D :D (even though the airport still seems to be a bit over the top!!)

$60!! That trip would have cost about $100 from Kiev airport :)

I need help once again.

Just found out that Aerosvit has cancelled my flight from Kiev to Mariupol, that is so nice of them.
They would not offer a refund or another flight. One person told me they sold the airline but I find that kind of funny. I believe since it is winter they dont have very many passengers going to Mariupol.
I worked with my ticket agent to get flights from Kiev to Donetsk so I need a few lines translated for my trip.

1. My flight is from Kiev to Donetsk at 15:30

2. I need a taxi to Mariupol

I am sure I will need some last minute help before my flight.

У меня в Opera - нормально, в IE6 - сдвинуто.
Нормально - это как у Ramil, поскольку я пользуюсь Оперой. :lol:
