Как перевести на Английский "на Руси".
I may be (and pretty sure I am) wrong about this, but can't it mean something like "Russian-style", or be used as an adjective.
Is "Рождество на Руси" "Christmas Russian-style", or "Russian Christmas".
Just a thought
на Руси = в России = in RussiaQuote:

It’s easy to make such mistake because “на Руси” on a regular basis used with “обычай” – custom (tradition) and the like. For example:Quote:

custom in Russia or custom Russian-style means essentially the same
thanks, i knew that it means "в России" but it kinda seemed to me that "на Руси" means "on the older russian way", that's probably "Russian style" as u said...
"Раньше на Руси черта называли Мурин"
or
"Кому на Руси Жить хорошо"
I think in English it is perfectly acceptable to say "Rus", at least among people who know what it means... "those who live in Rus" etc.
is that prononced as Рус or Рас?Quote:
