    Handwritten Russian Help

    Hello there,

I'm hoping someone can help me. A good friend of mine is from Russia. She's been in the US for 9 years, and her English is great, but she still speaks in Russian to those who can speak it with her.

I was in a used book store the other day, and came across a set of books, three volumes, that were in Russian. I asked what they were, and was told they were books of Shakespeare. I was thrilled when I found them, and bought them, because she loves Shakespeare, and it was an added bonus that it was in Russian!

Anyway, what I need help with: I want to write a message on the inside cover of the first volume in handwritten Russian. I've already got it translated, (I used a free translation site) but the problem is, it's translated into printed Russian, not handwritten. Is there anyway that someone can help me by writing it in handwritten Russian and somehow scanning it and posting for me to copy? I would greatly appreciate it. Here's both the English and printed Russian versions of the message I would like to write:

I hope that you like these books that I found. I know you like Shakespeare, and when I realized that they were in Russian, I thought of you and wanted you to have them. God Bless, and Merry Christmas, Svetlana!

    Your friend,
    Ashley

Я надеюсь, что Вы любите эти книги, которые я нашел. Я знаю, что Вы любите Шекспира, и когда я понял, что они были на русском языке, я думал о Вас и хотел, чтобы Вы имели их. Бог Благословляет, и С Рождеством Христовым, Светлана!

    Ваш друг,
    Ашлей

I have tried to correct the Russian translation as best as I could. You will still want someone else to look over the rest.

    >>I hope that you like these books that I found. I know you like Shakespeare, and when I realized that they were in Russian

Я надеюсь, что тебе нравятся эти книги, которые я нашла. Я знаю, что тебе нравится Шекспир, и когда я видела, что они были переведены на русском языке

    >>Merry Christmas, Svetlana!

    С Рождеством, Светлана!

    >>Your friend,
    Ashley

    Твоя подруга,
    Эшли

Sorry I cannot help more. I hope that that helped with the translation.

Let's finish what Knave has started. I'm assuming you are a girl, tirednemo, although I've heard of guys named Ashley. The grammatically correct version and the tone of translation depend on your gender, and getting a book signed "your girlfriend" from a guy would be rather unconventional. Definitely forget the online translation, you are not subpoenaing your friend or expressing the eternal and unconditional love, are you?

Я надеюсь, что тебе понравятся книги, которые я нашла. Я знаю, что тебе нравится Шекспир, и когда я увидела, что они были на русском языке, я вспомнила о тебе и мне захотелось их тебе подарить. С Рождеством Христовым, Светлана (I'm not sure how to translate God Bless and not to sound like a religious fanatic, but it's not Бог Благословляет)

adoc, yep, you're right - I'm a girl. And I most definately don't want to swear my unconditional love to Svetlana!

Thank you guys so much for helping me! Now I just have to figure out how to write it in handwritten Russian. As for "God Bless", I would LIKE it to be in there, but it doesn't have to be. Svetlana, or Lana as we usually call her, is an extremely devout Christian - very religious. I am as well, but not nearly as much as she. So I want that sentiment somewhat in the message - is there some sort of Russian phrase that Russians use that would convey that sentiment?

"God bless you" можно перевести как "Благослови тебя Бог"

okay - I think I'm really getting the hang of it. THe only problem I'm having is that the "M" and "T" (in lower case) look the same in handwritten Russian. They both look like cursive English "u". How can I write it to where you can determine which is which?

Here's the alphabet from the link above. As you can see, they don't look the same at all.

I started another thread with the scanned image of what I wrote. Can you look at it and tell me if it's legible? LoL
