Than he will be
писака
бумагомаратель
бумагомарака
бездарный писатель
(рифмоплёт or стихоплёт if he tryes write poetry)
(словоблуд or краснобай usually is said about someone who talks way too much, but it can be used for writers in some cases)
or what happens but rare - графоман
Я бы перевела расстроенный неудачами, отчаявшийся добиться успеха, сокрушающийся от неудач писатель
Actually it is much simpler than you think
неудавшийся писатель
or
несостоявшийся писатель

"nesostojavshijsja" is not the same as frustrated. The former means lack of the actual success, the latter the perception of it. Either one can be present without the other.
I don't know about a good word to translate "frustrated", Lampada's first descriptions come closest I guess.
Be attentive please - несостоявшийся[/quote]
Right, thanks!
The English "frustrated writer" is not necessarily someone who failed or lacked ability, but maybe someone who never really tried due to circumstances or lack of confidence, etc. A lot of editors and English teachers are accused of being frustrated writers. On a google search, неудавшийся писатель seemed to be the phrase most often used in that sense.
