pls help translate this into russian:

I am not asking you to marry me right now but will you ever consider marry to someone like me in the future ? Regardless of your answer, I will continue to help you on your school tuition because in time, I have found that you are someone who should go to college and I am happy I can help.


You know, I am not young. If you think we can only be friends, then I will think about dating other girls seriously. If you think our friendship can develop something deeper in the future, then I will not date other girls seriously. You know I really like you very much. If you need sometime, I can wait. I don't want to put any pressure on you.

In the previous article, I meant to say 'If you need sometime to think about it, I can wait. Please let me know your thought.'

Johnroman, does this lady think you speak Russian? I do not understand.

Me too, Evgeniya, me too. What's with all these people coming back and asking for translations into Russian after every reply? I bet you all of them speak English already. No point trying to make them think you understand Russian.

I first met the lady about two years ago (not in Russia). Then we met again a year ago in another encounter. At that point, we dated for a few months. Then she went back to Russia and I came back to "wherever". But we kept in touch via email and phone. I have been studying russian for almost a year now (I self studied for about six month and now have a russian teacher teaching me.) At this point, I can communicate with her only using simple russian words but am not yet able to express complex things. Sometimes she does not understand me because I cannot pronnouce russian words very accurately. Her english is as good as my russian. Yes she understand I am studying russian and she probably knows I wrote the emails with somebody's help. I think in a year's time, my russian would be much better because I am spending almost 20+ hours a week studying russian. I can read better than I can write; that's why I need your help in translation.

I first started learning russian two years ago! If you would have started teaching yourself russian when i did then you could just tell her in russian yourself. No time like the present to get started.

So her English is as good as your Russian, you say? Then it would mean she can read your English messages as well as you can read her English messages.

They are OK, believe me.

"Я не прошу" is present.
Do not confuse with "попрошу" which is future perfect.

"я подумаю" : same confusion here.
"подумаю" is future. The present will be "думаю" or "подумываю"
which has slightly different meaning.

You can use imperfect here too:
...я буду думать о том, чтобы встречаться...

It's rather a matter of personal preference.
But IMHO "буду думать" implies a more serious process of thinking,
which may draw too much attention to this fact.

Although it clould show how difficult it is for the man to part with the
idea of marrying this girl. (I realized it just now )

The letter starts off with "I am not asking to marry you" and later on in the letter it says "I am thinking of dating other young girls". To me this sounds somewhat demeaning. This probably means the man is losing interest in her.
If I was the recipient of this letter, I would dump him on the spot.

I would have to agree with you Kwatts. It is a poorly constructed letter for the purpose. He definately needs someone with a "silver tongue " to help him, for this job.

Kwatts59 and DDT, there is a grain of a truth in it. But I wonder more at "I am not asking you to marry me right now...If you need sometime, I can wait. I don't want to put any pressure on you." I never met with "western" gals and maybe this baby talk (i'm sorry Johnroman, but for my ears it's a baby talk) is exactly what they want... but are you a man or what? Why didn't you say "I want to marry you" without "if you need sometime... i don't want to put any pressure..." Maybe it sounds good in "west" but here in Russia it's like declareing "I am weak and feeble".

I think it is to soften his previous almost threat-like statement(I'm not asking you to marry me now. But I'm thinking of dating other young women). Oh, I'm sorry, I just had to jump in on the bandwagon.

That's the problem. You guys keep arguing about how poorly
constructed the letter is and you all see what could be wrong with it.
But none of you can actually help making it better. So what's the point?

IMHO any letter could be understood (or twisted) one way or another.

If you want a real adivce, Johnroman, here it is:
Since this conversation may be the turn point of your relationship
and is so important, do it in person or at least by phone.
