Thread: прощать - to forgive

Listening to a song by Полина Гагарина called я тебя не прощу никогда and am uncertain about прощу. My best guess is that it is the first person singular form of прощать, but when I looked it up the correct form is прощаю. So, either прощу is a form of an entirely different verb or it's an alternative (or possibly antiquated) form of прощать. Does anyone know the answer to this question? Also, BTW, how popular/highly respected is Полина Гагарина in Russia? I see that her YouTube views are in the millions.

it's future form. "I will not forgive you ever" (or "I will never forgive you")

You are looking at the correct verb but at the wrong aspect.
It is used the perfective aspect of прощать: простить.

A lot of verbs end up with an Imperfective ending in "аю" and a perfective with the "same stem" that ends with just "у".

She is both popular and respected. How popular? You said it yourself her YouTube views are in the millions. In fact, I don't think there are that many people who'd say "I don't know", if you asked them "Who is Polina Gagarina?"
