What to Do With My Russian?

Well, lately I've been screwing around with other languages, namely Japanese and Chinese, and I keep finding myself drawn to them, such that I lack inspiration to continue with Russian. Now I've put so much time into it so far, I won't drop it. I just need somethings I can do to revive the novelty Russian had when I began. What kinds of things can I do with Russian that will make me want to keep learning it? Keep in mind I'm not some uber-Russian person, so I can't go read Pushkin or something. What cool things can I do with Russian at my level?

Try writing Russian with Chinese characters. You can kill two birds with one stone.

What drew you to start learning Russian in the first place?
Whatever the reason, you learned a great deal about an extremely difficult language in a very short period of time on your own. That is a major accomplishment. I applaud you.

If you live near a big city like Los Angeles, there is usually a little concentration of Russian culture in the area... Here we have a street that is almost entirely Russian cuisine, books etc., and there are usually some people you can find who speak it there. If you can find a place like this, order a sandwich, say спасибо to the deli guy, and practice speaking по-русский in the real world!

    喀克的辣!

Easy to write (OK, that was very bad), much more difficult to read!

Actually, most Chinese people only know one phrase in Russian, and it's not that one. Can you guess what it is?

    It's something like:
压特比阿柳吧柳 (sorry, that was even worse .. it's not easy I think!)
Море удачи и дачу у моря

I was married to a wonderful Belarussian woman...but I wouldn't recommend that as a method for continuing Russian studies!

For me it's the wonderful movies and art coming out of Russia, and my friends.

    Siberiangoddess,
It doesn't mean anything - I was just following your instructions ... read N's post and think about it!

Try to translate some good Russian book into English. That's a lot of fun, I believe.

Just listen to some good Russian music.
That always helps me when I am bored.

Just listen to some good Russian music.
Also, watching a variety of Russian films on a regular basis may spark an interest in practicing the language further. It's one of ways that keeps me inspired.
