    Водитель для Веры

    Кто посмотрел этот фильм?

I though it was really good, I enjoyed it alot.
I also have a 3 questions: Do they have film classifications in Russia, as in age limits on certain films?
And what is the Crimea really like? It looks so beautiful in the film.
And in which year did Khrushchev transfer the Crimea from the RSFSR to the Ukrainskaya SSR?

    I enjoy Игорь Петренко.

Я смотрела его летом, он мне тоже очень понравился.

На первые два вопроса я не могу ответить, но я знаю, что Хрущев передал Крым Украине в 1954 году.

No, they don't have classification as far as I know.

Crimea is even more beautiful and picturesque .

Well, about the movie itself - I found it rather kitschy and at least disjointed.
The harsh ending is not in line (IMO) with the rest of the film. The NKVD officers weren't exactly sort of Bronx gangsta dudes, especially during the Khrushchev era named "ottepel" . The physical disability of hers was to add some 'outcastiness' and compassion, where just alcoholism would suffice. All in all the idea behind the movie seems to be to make another " Burnt By The Sun" Directed by Nikita Mikhalkov and it failed.

PS my first post here - so hello all !

Well, I wouldn't be so harsh, Евгения , and say - both are legitimate.

Errm, I didn't really like it either, but the Crimea certainly does look rather beautiful in that film. Personally I prefer those zany '70s movies that are premised on two people looking extraordinarily similar to each other.

I was confused. Did Viktor really love Vera? I mean, he lied to her about rousing Lida, and told that KGB guy that he didn't love her, but I thought he just was lying to him maybe.
And he saved the baby. But wasn't that just because his sister died. I mean he even have the baby the same name as his sister. I liked the actress who played Vera. Something Babenko I think. What else has she been in?

Saw it on TV in December, also it was shown at Dom Keno's film festival in Dec. I liked it but the end was fantasy.

where can you rent or buy films like this in America? I know blockbuster doesn't have it . A different rental movie place where I live has a foreign film section, but I couldn't find any russian films there either. Any suggestions.....are there any good websites to buy from?

I've been ordering several Russian films through Netflix over the net for the past month. Their international section isn't bad, and the Russian category is decent enough. A huge majority of the Russian movies I've seen so far renting through Netflix are not available at any video store where I live. But I haven't looked for Водитель для Веры quite yet . . .
If only you could see . . . what I have seen, with your eyes.

Lucky you. I had to watch it twice to catch everything, although I understood the general story the first time around.

Owwwch! That special file-sharing software which we are not allowed to mention in this forum! I was trying to download "Igla", but only one guy has it, and it was taking forever. I got maybe 1MB done over the course of several days.
