One question: is "кто с эту агрессию" simply an опечатка? I thought that the preposition "с" is used with the accusative only in expressions relating to size, such as мозг у крысы размером со среднюю узюминку, ("a rat's brain is the size of a medium raisin") and so forth.
Yes, I agree. Personally, I don't think the word "homophobe" (i.e., a word that relates to a person) should be used at all, and "homophobia" or "homophobic" should be used very rarely. I wrote in the other thread that one can say about dwarfs or albinos that "They are normal people with abnormal genes," but to say that "They are abnormal people" is
Similarly, IMHO, one can say "This law seems to be homophobic," but to say "People who support this law are homophobes" is unfair. Just as one can say "Homosexuality (the condition) is a deviation from the norm," but to say "Homosexuals (the people) are deviants" sounds extremely rude.
I would add that in 1978, there was a California ballot referendum ("Proposition 6" or "The Briggs Initiative") to ban homosexuals from teaching in public schools in the state. At first, this ban was widely supported by California conservatives. However, former governor Ronald Reagan (who was, of course, a favorite and a hero of these very same conservatives!) publicly spoke against the Briggs Initiative in a letter to California newspapers. In part because of Reagan's influence, many conservatives changed their mind about the ban, and in the end California voters rejected the proposition.
But Reagan did NOT insult supporters of the ban by using words like "homophobia" or "hatred" or "Nazis," etc. He simply wrote that such a ban would unfairly discriminate against a category of citizens who were mostly law-abiding and weren't guilty of anything, and at the same time, the ban would be useless to protect children from pedophiles, etc.
A short Russian-language summary of the Briggs Initiative from Википедия (including a quotation from Reagan's letter):
Regardless of whether one agrees with Reagan about homosexual schoolteachers, I think it's fair to say that Reagan's language was "classy" -- he criticized the proposed law, but avoided personal criticism of other people.
