I'm writing a paper (or at least trying to) about the USSR's history with the zapovedniki reserves. I'm most interested in "acclimatization", where exotic animals were introduced into the USSR in an attempt to make them commercially exploitable...such as the muskrat, racoon dog and mink. I think they even tried zebras in Ukraine. I figure this is probably a long shot, but does anyone else know anything about this practice, or just the history of zapovedniki in general? Of course I'm reading books to find that out myself, but there is only so much on Russia in a small college library in America.
