I saw this very cool ebook reader in a shop in Belarus. I had never come across this manufacturer before, so I looked it up. It is a Ukrainian product apparently, and it is on sale in some Eastern European countries, and Germany.

I like it because it has the biggest e-ink display of any ebook reader I have ever seen. 9.2 inch. I already have an ebook reader (Irex S800) and I will not buy this one, but it's cool!

It can also READ aloud the text from the book that you are reading!
Check it out! The price in Belarus is 4 200 000 BYR = 1329 USD (That is very high, can that be right?)

PocketBook is the leading e-reader producing company in this part of the world. Their first models 301 (6 inches) and 360 (5 inches) where maybe the best e-readers all over the world some years ago. But these days they still use low contrast e-ink screens, while most of other leading producers already use advanced "pearl" e-ink screens. As for the price it is too high with respect to that of others. These days it more affordable to buy AmazonKindle DX (9.7 inches) with the advanced screen.

I primarily use it as a bedside clock with day-sensitive alarm (automatically does not ring on weekends, for example) but it also plays internet radio, checks for email, does Facebook and hundreds of other things, all as downloadable free apps (previously called "widgets" when smartphones weren't that popular yet).

Well, I'm not sure how that fits your thread, but could you look for iPhone 4 16 GB and then tell us for how much you could purchase it there?

On the other hand there is something good about pocketbooks for those who learn Russian. All pocketbooks have built-in Lingvo dictionaries which can work as a pop-up dictionary while reading a Russian (or any other language) book. For example AmazonKindle is able to use only English(or other with Latin alphabet)-to-Something dictionary as a pop-up dictionary (while it is enough for those Russians who learn English ).

@Coffeecup - I bought my ebook reader about a year ago.
For some reason I never came across the Pocketbook brand, I wish I had! I bought mine from a Dutch company that has since gone bust - they were passionate techies but not very good at finances, I guess. The Pocketbook would have been better for me, and yes, I have loaded a whole bunch of Russian text books on it, for studying.

@Eric - Iphone is probably not going to be cheaper in Belarus. I have noticed that imported high end tech stuff is not cheaper (some low-cost stuff is though). Probably because of import tariffs that are less than favourable.

I don't have an iPhone myself and I'd say that most people in Belarus probably do not have the latest smartphone. If I see one, I'll tell you what the price was, but I have been in a few mobile shops and I haven't noticed that they sell the iPhone.

from 800$ after the last devaluation it is awfully big pile of belarusian money, about my full salary for 3.5 months (I'm an engineer with a medium income). That's why there aren't many authentic iPhones in Belarus but there are many Chinese analogs
