Дед мороз
"Дедушка" неправильный?
But what will he bring you?
It's correct too. It's an affectionate diminutive.Quote:

I seem to remember it sometimes referred to as just a Мобиль -- or am I wrong?Quote:

Dead Morose и Санта Клаус суть абсолутно различные персонажи. Dead Morose приходит на Новый Год, а Санта Клаус на Рождество.
А как это они похожи друг на друга?
I'm sure there will be some people who disagree with this, but I'll quote the following text I ran across yesterday in Genevra Gerhart's "The Russian's World."
The idea of Grandfather Frost seems to be a relatively new one, probably not much more than 100 years old. It is as if, having the Christmas tree thrust upon them from the West, the Russians looked around and discovered they also needed a counterpart to Santa Claus (and also to Black Peter of the Dutch legend)...
So there you have it. It does seem to be a wishy-washy statement -- "seems to be" and "it is as if" seem to make it sound like idle speculation rather than hardcore research, but I thought I'd provide this information for your pondering.
Похожи? Да ты что? Они даже одеваются по-разному, не говоря уже про ужимки и повадки.Quote:

Bollocks, Dead Morose never wears red. His coat is blue.Quote:

Originally Ded Moroz wore long blue coat, but under european influence the red colour now is also acceptable. But his coat is always LONG, and Ded Moroz never has spectacles or pipe. And he never makes this strange "ho-ho-ho" sounds like Santa does. :) Ded Moroz has a granddaughter and has no elfes. He is more severe then Santa because his job actually not only bringing presents to kids but also causing frost and snow in winter, when he knocks with his long staff. And it's obvious that Ded Moroz has pagan origin unlike Santa.Quote:

Then again, the original Santa Claus didn't wear red either, that was just American advertisement of Coca Cola in the 1930s, believe it or not.
Fucking Americans!Quote:
