I remember watching on television about 15 or more years ago, video of a Russian built space shuttle taking off and landing under remote control yet! It was named Буран. But I never heard another word about it. Was this a hoax? A few years ago I looked at pictures of it on the internet. Did the soviets really produce a space shuttle? Why did they not fly it into outer space?

Actually, it was totally automated landing without any remote control. As I know NASA (and others) cannot do it yet.

The program was shut down. It appeared to be too expensive.

Now the Buran stands in Gorky park (Moscow) and turns to a heap of stuff.

It's on display and open to the public for about 30 rubles to walk inside. The interior is gutted and turned into a small cinema with rows of seats.

There were two of them. Another one is conservated.
