Thread: Бледно-голубая точка

Oops, sorry I did not realize this was a repost. I tried a quick search on the title, but I guess the old thread was titled синяя точка instead of голубая.

I posted the old thread, and I'm happy to see it posted again. It's a great video, whatever word we use to translate "blue"

Yes, "голубой" can mean "gay", but ONLY when applied to people. I recommend to you not to use "голубой" when talking about PEOPLE. That's all
Feel free to use it everytime when describing light-blue THINGS. That is OK, and that is the right way to speak.
We say "голубая планета" about the Earth, not "синяя планета".

голубой is an innocent word for blue or light blue... (the only slang meaning is 'gay').... but still it used to denote a color, which is always clear from cotext, while in contrast the english word 'gay' in the meaning of 'happy and full of fun, or bright' is old-fashioned.

бледно-голубой is a color shade, so association with 'gay' is not likely....

by the way, technically, "голубой" is light blue, while blue is "синий". 'Navy' would be "темно-синий"...

And "синий" can sometimes be slang for "drunk"
