before i enter university, i want to get a taste of Russia (thinking of living there for a period of time.) is there any work designed for foreigners that would give me enough to stay there for 6 months - a year?

short of a study or work visa (for the latter you need a job beforehand) you will only be able to stay in russia for a maximum of three months. (the new multi-entry exit business visa regs. state that for every 3 months here, you need to leave for three months)
if you somehow did resolve the problem, you could make plenty of money teaching english.
    good luck!

No, you usually need some kind of qualification, like TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language)

Try www.languagelink.ru, I believe you don't need to be qualified beforehand, you train on the job and get a TEFL certificate.

you dont need any qualification, most of the places that require it are the official ones that actually pay a lot less anyway. its very very easy to find work teaching, like real easy

finding work is the easy part, getting a visa that'll let you stay for more than 3 months is what's difficult

That's why I suggested a bigger organisation. They tend to assist with visas. I'd be surprised if there was no way a foreigner could stay in Russia for longer than 3 months at a time. Everything is possible in Russia.

you could go there for 3 months and get a job no problem. or you could, like TATY said, look into the bigger (teaching) companies who would be able to potentially offer you a contract and work visa but they pay less, squeeze every last man hour out of you and almost always require some certificate. also, i guess you have to be "worth it" as the process for getting a work visa is one long bureaucratic rape session that has quotas, takes a long time and costs $1000 for each invited foreigner.
there is always a way, im proof of that, but you normally need to be over here in order to discover these ways and therein lies the problem!
