Well, I was going to get the Pocketbook 612 Pro but decided I should get something more affordable. So, I went with the Nook Simple Touch last night. My friend has been learning English, so she should be able to navigate the Nook pretty easily. Also, it does support Cyrillic fonts and the ePub format.
