Visa Invitations
I have a friend in Russia who wants to visit me here in the UK, and he says he needs an official invitation for his visa. Does anyone know how to get one? Do I have to apply to the Russian embassy in London, or something similar? Any helpful tips would be much appreciated, especially if anyone else here on the board has done this before. Cheers!

Try to put your question at The Moscow Expat Forums http://www.expat.ru/forum/index.php

There's also quite a few discussions and good advice for visa support at http://www.waytorussia.net. Good luck to your friend. :)

If it's like the US, you write him a letter. You invite him to come visit you, specify your full name, his full name and passport info, the dates, state that you will be responsible for his room and board (unless he books a hotel), his health insurance. In the US we can get special one-month health insurance for foreigners, for smth like $100.
Just ask him to find out what his government requires in the form of an official invitation - so you don't have to do all the work!
Удачи!
