Twilight? Is it popular in Russia?
Book & movie lovers....
So, over here in the U.S. the book Twilight and the other three novels by Stephenie Meyer (New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn) are a big thing especially with the females. It seems like all of the girls in my daughter's school have read them.
The movie Twilight opened in theaters here last weekend and made the most money ever for a movie by a female director.
I know that Twilight has been translated into Russian...

...and I am wondering if any of you have read it either in Russian or in English and if it is as big of a deal over there as it is here.

To be honest, I've never heard about it.

Ah, I lied. Of course I did hear about this movie. Moreover I've seen a few trailers before. But trailers are trailers, it's not a movie. =)
But the movie hasn't been seen by me yet. Well, you know, if this site gave so high rating to it, then I will see it or read the book.
About popularity, according the ink above this movie have got less one million USD for now, so it's not so popular as it is in USA, you know. At least so far. =)

Hm, "Quantum of Solace" , I definitely heard of it but it's nothing special. A trailer with guns, vision effects, action and other boring stuff. To comparing with rest of James Bond's movies, this one is the worstest, IMHO. I took care of it just due to an Ukrainian actress, playing there. But it's the same pip).

Лучше: I haven't seen it yet. Это предложение в пассивной странновато звучит. Well, you know, if

If Russia is fortunate, she'll dodge the Twilight craze.

Greetings DDT, I have not had the pleasure of chatting with you yet.
So, I am guessing from your avatar that you are male. Please correct me if I am wrong. I think you might be missing the point of the "craze!" Please allow me to explain from the point of view of both a parent and my daughter.
When I first read the Twilight book thought it was a rather bad read; however, my 12 year old daughter finished the 544 page book in less than 2 days and begged me to get her the second book. The second book was 608 pages, the third was 640 pages and the fourth was 748 pages! She read all four books within a week and it was a school week.
Please know that there not many books out there of that length that get young people so excited to read and do not contain text that a parent need be concerned about such as foul language or teenagers having sex. So, I was actually pleased that she was reading them and I also read all four. I compare these books to a Harlequin Romance for teens.
What I find surprising and I think Hollywood does as well, is how popular these books have become and how well the movie has done. It seems that young girls do want to have young boys treat them with respect and in an old fashion way as the main character Edward treats Bella. He is overly polite and old fashion. He opens doors. He carries books. He meets her father before going out on a date. He is protective of her. He compliments her. He dresses well and not in pants that hang down so that you can see his underwear. He offers her his coat when she is cold and so on.
So girls are getting a glimpse of what the world was like many years ago and wondering what it will take to make the boys of today turn back into Edwards. I know that my daughter and her friends are all asking that. Why can't the boys in their school be more like Edward? They don't want a vampire thing - they want a gentleman.
Now, not knowing what it is like over in Russia, I cannot tell you if young girls over there will be thinking the same thing.
Re: Twilight? Is it popular in Russia?
Well, I've just seen this movie. Tell the truth, I am disappointed with this picture. I expected a showy action, but got more romantic than action. That's why young girls so like it, I guess. =)
Getting closer to the end I said to myself: "Oh, come on, the same thing again. Just another movie with a predictible end". But no, she didn't become a vampire in that moment, you know, in a ballet room when I was expecting her to.
So, you know, it's not an Underworld where vampires are featured also. =)
Nice movie, nice actors. And evening dress with a leg in a plaster in the ending - unusually to see. =)

Judging by readers' reviews in a Russian online library, young Russian girls react in a predictable manner.

I got it absolutely otherwise. A lack of romantic here and too many action appeared comparing to other Bond's series.
Re: Twilight? Is it popular in Russia?
I was invited to see it and laughed in the person's face.

Re: Twilight? Is it popular in Russia?
Long ago, I suppose, it was 92, I was reading the "Хищник 3" (Predator 3) book. It had even some frames from this movie. But I can't find any information about it in the web. :(
