    saakhashvili is fun!

he was on french television last night (along with gorbatchev, giscard and others) and he kept saying that georgia was a european country, that this country was great and that every european citizen should visit it. giscard kept saying no, we don't want to hurt herr putin.

a really funny debate and a funny saakhashvili with a european flag next to the georgian flag in his office.

Georgia, I have heard, is a very beautiful country. Ah, Кавказ!

i'd love to go there but the plane tijket must be quite expensive and bus and trains require at least two visas (multi-entry russian and georgian).

I presume you mean a European Union flag. They put them up everywhere in Georgia. They won't get in the EU anytime within the next 20 years. There are a few EU wannabes. Montenegro uses Euros despite not being in the EU.

LOL, That's funny I watched that TV show as well. I love Saakhashvili and his french is impressive. On the other hand Giscard is a stubborn old chap who still see the world the old way. As far as I care, any country can eventually enter the EU, because in the end I see the World as a single state. He is just an old bloke, I don't like him.
Even though I like the man, I did not like the way Gorbatech answered the questions, most of the time he did not answer the question but rambled on the greatness of the pereistroika and blah blah. It seemed he had some psychological pressure not to say anything bad. (FSB around I guess)

On the other hand Saakhashvili was brilliant! I loved the EU flag!!

I hope Georgia joins the EU, as well as Ukraine and Turkey. Blah to Giscard who only sees that, as the EU expands, the power of France inside the EU is getting thinner. Damn bloody frenches, they are still much chauvinistic.

i like the idea of a hard core for europe, a few countries who will go further in the union when the ones who just want a free trade zone won't hamper it (like the fucking english who suck big time, i want them out of the union right now!).

more countries means more difficulties to pass laws so a hard core of 6 to 10 countries would be great. if that happens, then, any country can join the european union as a free trade zone, turkey, the ukraine, georgia and eventually russia. why not?

i don't really like gorbatchev since the perestroika and the glasnost were a scam (the glasnot definitely was) and yes, he was boasting a lot.

It seemed he had some psychological pressure not to say anything bad. (FSB around I guess)
how can gorbatchev be pressured in any way? he's so famous and loved outside his own country that pressuring him would be completely stupid. putin has to cherish him so that he sends good publicity abroad.

Well I'm half English so mind your language jk.

I want the English to stay, they put a much needed atlantistic and liberal touch to the Union. They act as a balancing countries like France.

I tend to agree with the concept of hard core, but in my opinion Europe should devise a structure so that this hard core can grow to anyone whishing to enter it. The hardcore should not be limited to a certain number of countries. What can actually be understood when saying you get only a few hardcores is that there are two kinds of citizen in Europe, the higher ones i.e. the ones living in a country part of the hardcore, and the lower ones i.e. the ones not lucky enough to be born in a country part of the hardcore?
That's what I can conclude from that hardcore concept. And I'm totally against this. Why making this segregation? Why making second class citizens based on the country of origin?

Oh by the way I could not fathom why Giscard talked about Chile in that TV show. That argument was so dumb.

Do you know what is psychological pressure? It is not something that can be measured easily. And from what I heard in the show, they say he is not liked in Russia.
Putin may have to cherish him, but you can be sure Putin wants Gorbatchev to serve Putin's interests. So Putin wants the right kind of words out of Gorby's mouth.

Anyway what shocked me the worst was the media freedom totally trampled on. You know in France we have the "Les Guignols de L'info". A great political satire! And Russia used to have a similar show but Putin closed the show !!! VM, could you please comment please? Isn't it sad?

well i'm talking hardcore, i mean countries who want to put up common laws, and common justice and social systems. i really don't understand how the british can be out of the euro, out of the shengen space and can still have the same power as the others (the others being germany, france and italy, the big 4 in terms of population) in decision making.
the hardcore should be open to anyone wanting shegen, the euro (i don't care about the gdp at all) and tightened bonds.

it is true that i also think geography should be involved and the fewer the countries, the better the decisions but i'm probably worng on this one, i admit it.
i also think english shouldn't be such a strong language in the eu. there are only two countries who speak english, one is a small island (but i love the irish), the other is...well, you know what i think.
well, it just makes me sick everyone in western countries try to speak a very bad english, doesn't care about other languages and can't communicate but in a lousy, utilitarian and extremely poor english.
forty years ago, italians were learning french, poles were learning german and even the french were trying to learn german...they were even some people who were learning russian.
in france, german, russian and italian were studied by some.
go to a school in france now, you have english, english, english and a bit of spanish (for the lazy).
    that makes me sad!

    i want a multipolar world!!!!!!

gooo, i'm going too far, sorry.

Dont see why you are picking on Georgia for its claim to be a European country. They have one of the oldest european christian traditions that dates back to the 14th century. Geographically, they do lie within what is considered europe. Sure, they dont have the stability to join the EU right now, but you cant blame them for trying

Geographically, Georgia is in Asia. Politically, I sorry to say, it's even more Asia.

Did he really say suchj an idiotic thing?
How european citizen visiting Georgia can "hurt herr Putin"? I can't realize.

English is the most commonly spoken second language, therefore by default it's more commonly used. And the UK has the same power as the other big 4 as it contributes the same amount of money, maybe more. We aren't in the euro yet. It's not as simple as just launching head first into it. The UK is an Island nation at the edge of the union and therefore has a different mindset to mainland Europe. Tony Blair wants us to have the Euro, it's just the majority of people (excluding me) don't, and at the moment there is a strong anti-EU feeling in the country.

I think that this is the innate common sense of the English people coming through. There are great draw backs to joining the EU and even the World Trade Organization.
