Thread: Russian wedding music

Hi everyone! I am getting married in 5 days and have the chore of drawing up the music. We plan on having a little bit of everything (from 80's ballads to Sergei Briksa) and I wanted to have some Russian music as most of the people coming will be Russian (my fiance is Ukranian). I'm thinking traditional romantic songs to anything that's Christian (besides harder rock and rap). I would appreciate any help you can offer.. thanks a lot.

At a wedding, after drinking, eating and crying "Горько!" (or "Сладко!") appears a bayan player and all start to dance and sing "частушки". You can see some examples here or search web for more information.

98% of our guests wouldn't like it if we had alcohol, most of them being Russian or Ukraninan Christians. And the church we're being married in definitely wouldn't allow it.

Я, конечно, не беру в расчет Свидетелей Иеговы, Адвентистов Седьмого Дня и т.п. У меня по соседству снимал квартиру парень, из "охмуренных ксендзами". Эти запросто могут всю свадьбу промолиться.

It's an old Russian tradition to have at least one fistfight during a wedding party
There's even a proverb: "Ну что за свадьба без мордобоя."

What I mean is - it's very hard to arrange a general brawl when everyone is sober.

It has been a while since you've been on and I must admit I would love to have an update on some of your old questions....

How did your wedding go and what songs did you end up playing?

What about your communication with your in-laws? How is that going?

Have you had the opportunity to travel to Ukraine or Russian yet? If not, are there plans in the near future?

Have you had any kids yet and if so, what did you decide to do about the naming??

Any other interesting things that have popped up with you since you got married? anything that you were like, "wow, I had no clue about that custom"?
