Another series I liked is "The Bandit Petersburg"/"Бандитский Петербург." Though I've only seen the second part "Адвокат"/"The Lawyer." I was a teenager at the time it came out and I remember watching it with some of my friends (all girls) and crying rivers at the end. :roll: The song by Kornelyuk is very good, too.

And I suppose one might mention the Sherlock Holmes films as well...

It is true that it's next to impossible to buy Russian films/series on dvds with subtitles. Or sometimes you buy a dvd and it says on the keepcase that there are subs when in fact there are none. I think it's outrageous. For crying out loud, those are Russian classics, our best movies. But only some Russian films have subtitles, whereas when it comes to any foreign film - there are almost always Russian subs, the film itself is dubbed, there might be the original English soundtrack, and even English subtitles, if you're lucky.

Dunno if those have already been posted here somewhere...

Another series that was a great hit when it came out is "The Idiot" -- a screen adaptation of Dostoyevsky's novel of the same title. A lot of wonderful actors are in it -- Evgeny Mironov, Inna Churikova, Oleg Basilashvili, Vladimir Mashkov, Alexander Domogarov, Lydia Velezheva, Olga Budina, Mikhail Boyarsky... The director is Vladimir Bortko, the composer Igor Kornelyuk.
