There also was a kind of small sensation, when a few papers and TV programs mentioned, that the original Lenin's phrase was "Пока народ безграмотен, из всех искусств для нас важнейшими являются кино и цирк" ("While people are illiterate, for us the most important of all the arts are cinema and circus"). But this statement was proved false, since all the sources, including private letters, quote Lenin close to the canonical variant: «... вы должны твердо помнить, что из всех искусств для нас важнейшим является кино».
