    Pi

I was cramming through a list of 3,500 of the most common Russian words that somebody posted on this site. While I was taking a break between my studies, I found this article on the internet. Apparently, some 59 year old guy in Japan memorized Pi to the 83,431st digit. Wow!

That is a very impressive feat. Of course I am not going to pursue such a useless feat. But if someone can learn 83,431 totally useless digits which have no context, or meaning, then for sure, learning a mere 3,500 Russian words should be a piece of cake.

I think It's a good idea, because onestly, memorizing anything will help you memorize stuff better, be it Russian words, or digits of pie.

This is also pretty amazing. Memorizing 40 binary digits in 1 second! How!?!?!

i watched a program about about a genius the other day and ever since he had an epileptc fit when he was a kid he started experiencing numbers as visions. apparently the sections of the brain which deal with various emotions and senses can get crossed (eg you could end up smelling a colour) so he would experience numbers as shapes and visions. i think he had different visions up to like 10,000. also his brain would work out any form of super sum without him using any effort. he just see the various visions (vallys, lights etc) and it would be the answer. quite interesting. he also knew 9 languages and managed to learn most of some norsk language in a week. swine!!

A way to remember the first 6 digits of Pi: Remember the Russian sentence "Это я знаю и помню прекрасно." The number of letters in each word gives the respective digit.

I watched a story about a boy last month who could memorize big amount of information very quickly. He managed to remember all the answers for his school test consisting of scores of different numbers, a really big list. I wonder why didn't he just open his textbooks and learn everything. Because he failed his test -- done without ANY right answer. The answers he had learnt were faked.

Well, I view numbers as places and positions on the road on one map. When I need to add number, I just check where the first number is located, then add length of then next number, and I get the answer. But my map works for 1000 approximately, for bigger number I just add zooming, like seeing thousands as hunderds, or tens or ones. But it does not work for exact numbers like 53246+272564, I have to manipulate several maps in my mind to manage with that. And I am not genius in mathematic, although I was quite good with it in the school.

And my language abilities are piece of crap.

its like when japanese kids learn to use the abacus at a young age. by the time they get older they can do super sums just by imagining an abacus. i watched a group of them doing it and it was quite funny!

Damn, and I thought I was the reigning king of useless knowledge! (referring to the amount of numbers he memorized)
