    New Jersey

As I noticed New Jersey is the city which is mentioned in Hollywood films most often. Why? Does it have some special reputation?

New Jersey is actually a State.
Can you give any examples of what movies mention New Jersy?

The most popular cities mentioned in Hollywood films are probably New York, and Los Angeles. Sometimes there are movies in Las Vegas.

Jersey is mentioned a lot in movies; it's true. It's got a reputation for being a small suburbian area but also kind of tough.

Examples of movies / TV shows set in jersey: the jersey series (clerks, jay and silent bob strike back, mallrats etc...), the sopranos, ... there are more I just cant think of them off the top of my head.

    Oh, I'm so sorry!

And about films. I noticed, that if some person behave unusual, someone often say: "Oh, probably you're from Jersey!"
For example, I've recently watched "Hudson Hawk" again. When Bruce Willis robbed Vatican, he was called a guy from Jersey.
Or in Soulkeeper movie, when a very beautiful girl was dragging an astonished hero in the bed, he said: "You're from Jersey, aren't you?"

And many other movies (Nathan's list, for instance)...

Sorry, a bit of off-topic, about "Peacemaker" with Kidman and Clooney: What did she mean hijacking the minivan and saying, "you're from Philadelphia, aen't you?"

There are many people from New York who make fun of people from New Jersey and the state itself. This is mainly because New Jersey is seen as like a dumping ground for NY. There are also many factories, oil refineries, and other poluting facilities in the upper part of central NJ. Most New Yorkers see this part of NJ, so they usually think this is how it is all of the entire state, which is not true. The northern of NJ is very woodsy and on the mountainous side. From central to southern NJ, it various from suburban life to farms.

NJ also used to be a very big resort area. However, over the years, less and less people have been visiting the shores. Cape May, NJ, located in the south at the very tip, is still a very popular and expensive resort area. Actually, many New Yorkers tend to move out of the city to NJ. Many of my neighbors are from NY.

As to why they make fun of people who live in NJ, I have no clue. Example: they make fun of the way they drive. However, when New Yorkers come to NJ, they're awful as well.
