I think I understand that if you hold an (American) military ID, you don't need passports to enter countries, you just show that instead. Is this actually true? Can anyone like, tell me. And as far as, would i still need a visa? Dumb question, i know that nobody gets into Russia without a visa... But im yet again trying to go to moscow for new years this year and remembered im gunna have to pay 100 dollars for a visa... thought maybe i found a way around it?

Honestly, I doubt you will get in with a military ID... I mean the relationship between Russia and the US isn't that friendly that they will let in any American soldier... after all, what would happen if the entire US army would arrive in Moscow showing their IDs? You think they would let them in? If so, the easiest invasion ever! Eat that, Iraq!!!

As I know marines are guarded the US embassy in Moscow. You should arrange with their commander about your secret mission in Moscow on New Year and let them care about visas and other cr@t. :)
Thuoug many a true word is spoken in jest - in the early 90's one of my friend was on military service in Latvia, so his aunt and uncle could move him to Murmansk (where they lived then) in a couple of months. As I know they were not VIP or something, they just knew few men who could help them.

Jar-Heads get in if they are attached to Embassy Duty (a buddy of mine was), diplomatic papers are taken care of for them. Ask your particular Powers That Be for any loopholes for your invasion, er, visit.

Its not about not having persmission. Its just that a military ID (from any country i guess) can be used (sometimes) in place of a passport to travel to certain countries.
