Thread: Lenin's statue at Красная площадь (Vegas, anyways)

I forgot to ask this ealier, but when we were in Vegas a few weeks ago, we went to Mandalay Bay and saw Красная площадь. There was the huge statue of Lenin out front, and it was missing its head. I assumed that maybe revolters took the head of the real statue in Moscow, but I couldn't find anything on it. What's up with the missing head??

According to vegas.com, the Red Square bar has Lenin's head encased in a block of ice in a walk in freezer reserved for the folks who want to buy the most expensive vodka the bar sells. I'm not sure if they drink the vodka in the freezer or get a tour after.

There is no statue of Lenin on Red Square in Moscow.

Oh, thanks, JB! I was wondering why I couldn't find anything about it, and have never heard anything about it before... I remember hearing that for some ridiculous price, you can rent a locker in the freezer and keep your vodka.
Now, does anyone know why the statue has bird poo on it?

I was in Red Square about two months ago and there was definitely no Lenin's statue at the time there. A lot of things might have changed in Red Square since I last was there. Perhaps, they've set up a monument to Lenin within these two months. Who knows?

I thought about this meaning but failed to find any poo on the statue, so I decided to ask Fantom what it means. Can you see any bird poo on the statue?

I can see the poo alright. It was not enough that they pooed on it, they have also stolen the head. No respect whatsoever, damn birds.

You must be the luckiest one in the neigborhood. Either the birds have a great repect for your car or they don't like the area where you live.

Well.... I honestly don't have a car. I meant my Dad's car. Perhaps, that statement of mine wasn't as sound as yours because I can't see his car every morning.

I've seen my fair share of Lenin statues, but they all have interseting postures... this one looks a little strange? Is this a replica of the one that used to be in the Red Square?

Do you mean the statue in Fantom's pics? If so, I don't think it's a replica of the one that used to be in Red Square. As far as I'm aware, no statue of Lenin has ever been in Red Square. There are tons of them in Moscow, but not in that square.

I don't believe there ever was a statue of Lenin in the Red Square. A relic in the mausoleum for the communist religious rites, but not the statue.

It's probably one of those Vegas things where they try to put anything Russian they can in their Russian themed restaurant. Like at the Paris, there are French things that aren't really in Paris, I'd assume.

I wish I could have gone in, but it was a Sunday morning when we visited... I hear their bar is a sheet of ice so your drink stays uber-cold. Aah well, I guess I'm just going to have to keep drinking my drinks really fast!

Don't worry about it. In the USSR days there used to be a whole subculture of russian jokes about Lenin which has died out, since it is no longer edgy or dangerous.

I thought I'd search for some Lenin jokes just to see what they are like, and I came upon this supposedly true item, is this familiar to anyone?

In 1967, the Soviet Government minted a beautiful silver ruble with Lenin in a very familiar pose - arms raised above him, leading the country to revolution. But, it was clear to everybody, that if you looked at it from behind, it was clear that Lenin was pointing to 11:00, when the Vodka shops opened, and was actually saying, "Comrades, forward to the Vodka shops."

It became fashionable, when one wanted to have a drink, to take out the ruble and say, "Oh my goodness, Comrades, Lenin tells me we should go."
