Latte Art - What you get in your cup?

When you order a cup of latte coffee you also get a drawing in your cup. Mostly people get "Rosetta" or "Heart" as most simple pictures. But sometimes when a barista is inspired you can get something cute. This one I got yesterday

So, what you get in your cup at your part of the world?

Coffeecup, that's a bit like telling peoples fortune from the tea leaves at the bottom of a cup of tea. People in England do that sometimes.

Gosh! The baristas where I live never bother with pictures! I'm glad if the cup hasn't spilled over...

By the way - is it possible to get Soy milk or Rice milk lattes in Russia?

I love latte but I am allergic to normal cows milk. I could not drink it at all in Ukraine, Belarus or Latvia when I was travelling there, terrible for an addict like me! There are nice cafes in all these places, but they do not cater for people with milk allergy.

I am guessing that it's not common in Russia either, but perhaps a few places have it...

Not sure why milk allergy seems to be less common in the Eastern European countries. Or perhaps people there just ignore it, or think it's a silly thing to bother with.

Starbucks usually have soy lattes, wherever they are.... Not sure if they are in Russia (yet), or not... Sweden is Starbucks-free, so far!

Hanna, I've never asked for soy milk neither heard that somebody ever asked it in a coffee-shop. Though in a supermarket one can by dry powder cream for coffee without genuine milk.

Seraph, what about your personal experience .

No one gives me nice latte art! People are in too much hurry to make art, it seems.

CoffeeCup, younger daughter found this photo on Tumblr and showed it to me knowing your love of Latte Art.

I looked it up using Google Photo Search and found out that it came from the Annual Figaro Latte Art Competition. "26 highly talented and good looking Figaro baristas vied in the Annual Figaro Latte Art Competition. The objective is to produce a very artistic and original latte art. Each contender was given 5 minutes to make 2 artworks wherein they will choose which ones they will present to the judges for evaluation and grading." You can view each of the 26 cups at the link above, but this is a photo of the winner:

I also found out that there is a Latte Art World Championship

"This exciting 64 Competitor, bracket style, sudden death format features head to head competition as "a match" between the competitors. The competitor receiving the highest score from the three judges advances and the loser is eliminated. Competitors are given three minutes to produce one drink for the judges which is then scored against the competitor at the facing machine."

Judging is based on five categories:
    1) Aesthetic Beauty
    2) Definition
    3) Color Infusion
    4) Degree of Difficulty and Creativity
    5) Speed

Here is a link to judging categories explained

Here is a photo of their winner

16 ounce Dunkin' Donuts, cream, ONE sugar.
Or 12 ounce made-at-home in a to go cup Espresso with half and half, ONE sugar.

Quoth Coffee Cup: "The big smoking fish. You can't name yourself a fisherman unless you got one."
Um, no. Commercial Fishermen around here are Dunkin' Donuts guys. Showing up on the docks with that would be brutal.

I have only 2 Russian Kids this year @ Motel Happy As Hell on the Beach. They were told that a Starbucks was on every corner. Not here. I think 3 on Cape Cod. Ton o Dinkin's! Lots of smaller Mom & Pop shops that are much better.
    They LOVE the Dunkin'.

Work has Unleaded (decaf), Regular (Regular) and High Test (usually a dark roast Premium Coffee).
Sugar, Raw Sugar, Blue and Pink fake sweeteners.
2% milk, Half and Half, Non-Dairy Powdered Creamer (Magic Dust).

I just placed an order for "Aerosmith drummer and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member Joey Kramer's ROCK AND ROAST".

On hot summer days I make a milkshake. 3 scoops of cheap vanilla ice dream, 2 spoons of Malted Milk, 4 spoons of Nesquick and a heaping spoon or 2 of Maxwell House Instant Coffee, 2 ice cubes. Blend well. (Fluffer-Nutter too)

    That's my Coffee Story...

Valda, this guy is a little difficult to understand at times and a little corny as well, but he does explain how to make several different patterns.
