    I'm moving to Moscow!

Here goes...I am a single mom and decided to move to Moscow to learn Russian. At the same time, I give the kids fantastic memories forever. We're moving in 5 weeks. My friends here are saying that I can't survive if I don't speak the language. I already speak French and English Fluently. In the last few weeks, I've learned the alphabet, the main greetings phrases, numbers, basic of grammars and accumulated some vocabulary but needless to say, I'm totally not ready to face a conversation. Out of the book, I'm useless.

    My questions are these:
How can I find a school/tutor in French/Russian oriented toward arts (music, dance, etc.) for 5 and 7 years olds and how much should I expect to pay?
    Will I survive?

I am open to any feedback!! Wish me luck

I think you will find your tutor here. You can get everything in Moscow. Literally, even an atomic submarine if you look hard. It's not a problem, unfortunately I don't have any ideas about how much it will cost you. I can only guess that the price will be around $10-20 per hour but I really don't know for sure. Nevertheless, I'm absolutely positive that you will survive. Frankly, I think it's not the language that helps to survive here, but money. Moscow is an expensive city especially to foreigners.
    Anyway, welcome to Moscow.
Send me a PM if you need me.

    Chantale -

I gather from your post (and your name ) that you are probably French speaking? Where do you live?

If you're in France, you can contact these people:
    http://www.centre.russie.net/

... and if you're in Belgium:
    http://www.centreculturelrusse.be/fr_cours-de-russe.php
These people can definitely help you along with some info.

    Good luck, and enjoy it!

Don't go... It's not worth it.
Well, I don't know what to say. I want to say thanks to the Academy, to Mama, to Papa and to my dog. I love you all.

I was in Russia last New Year and frankly, I felt in Love with the country, its culture, the food, the air...If all goes well, I wish not to come back. Many people are saying I'll be disappointed after a while. It's a risk I take.

Thank you all. I'm finding a lot of interesting information in all the links you referred.
Lt. Columbo, we are coming on student visas delivered by the University. I have an apartment near Prospect Mira. All I am left to settle is kids time while I'll be in school. I have family and friends to care for them but I would really like to continue their music and arts education while I'm there. I still have hope to find a tutor/school at reasonable price.

    Salut Chantale

Don't be put off by people who say you'll be disappointed. If you keep in mind that you're going to a real place with real people, and a real daily routine with all its pros and cons, you won't be disappointed.... It's a once in a lifetime experience - enjoy it!!!

Finding a music and arts teacher shouldn't be that difficult, methinks, as both seem to be genetically implanted in every single Russian I have ever met... So there must be someone who can help you.

Лёва - or any other resident MR artists - any ideas?

Chantale, do let us know how you're getting on. I'm wildly jealous!

What is so special about Russia, its air, culture and food?
