I don't know how americanized you can say it is... I mean, as far as I saw, Lenin wasn't holding a big mac and the kreml didn't have any starbucks signs attached to it. You might see a little more colorful advertisments on the street than during the 1920's, but what is there to expect?
yeah lol i did hear the Pushkin Cafe was really expensive, but its my moms treat so lol, i am excited, does it have good food and all that?Quote:

Their borsch is the best I've ever had, anywhere, including babushka- homemade. And I'll second the pelmeni.
Took my parents there last year, and they still continue to rave, saying it was one of the best meals of their lives.
Even had this 'godfather'-looking fellow in a seriously expensive suit and lots of gold jewelry sitting alone at a corner, lamp-lit table, and holding court. And guys, also in seriously expensive suits and jewelry would come in periodically, and deferentially sit at the table, and then ask this guy for something, then be sent away. It was hilarious! Right out of a Scorsese film! We were convinced that he was either mafia, or some seriously powerful Muskovite.
Cafe Pushkin? How expensive is it? Is it something new? For some reason I've never heard of it (or my memory is failing me).
it is expensive, shick, lux kinnda place
all moscow beau-monde (showbiz and businessman) likes hanging out there
Yes, I'd be interested to see how much money it costs for a 3 course meal.
Andy
I got that, but how expensive? How much for a plate?Quote:

K, thanks. It is something new. Last time I was in Moscow, there were very few decent restaurants. Well, I am spoiled by Montreal, it's a totally different culture, people would go out every other day. I wonder if one needs a reservation.
well actually we got here so many restaurants that sometimes you can be lost in your choice ;)
and every restaurant implicates its own clients :)
or some of them can be covered up by grey door and absence of any sign ;) and these are the best as well :)))))
Well, a good guide is always of great help. Same everywhere, the best restaurants are not always the fanciest or the most obvious. I just tried a few places and I was not very impressed. What was that place that was not too bad? Argh! It is a chain of some sort. Yolki-palki?
oohhh nooooo
Елки-палки is not even a restaurant....it's like McDonalds IMHO
(don't get me wrong) Are you crazy? Have you ever gone to Ёлки-Палки? There's no fast food there. Why do you call it MacDonalds then? I left 500 roubles (about $17) a couple of weeks ago at this restaurant. I remember visiting a restaurant in Toronto, then I left about 230 roubles!
McDonalds is a restaurant. I would not eat there, but that's not the point. I would always prefer food to any sort of "fancy service", candles and super-duper trained waiters, I've had enough of this nonsense already. You go to the smelliest restaurant hidden on a second floor in Chinatown, and that's where you get real food.
i know that there is no fast food there but anyway it's not the best i've ever been to :)
and of cource it depends on your favourite cuisine
