A very good test, but I'd make some addition about learning Russian in childhood. The way the child learns language is also important here. He is more likely on his way to be a native speaker if he spends enough time in enviroment that uses Russian as means of communication (not necessarily a big society, can consist only of the parents, though the bigger the better :) ), that is to say the natural way the child learns to speak his first language.Quote:

Yes I am fluent in Russian and I learnt it from when I was a baby. I just was not sure as although my family are Russian, I was not born in Russia or CIS Countries.
Wurd.Quote:

Learning Russian in your childhood? Why not? I am 14 years old (okay, I'll be 14 in 15 minutes and I wonder if I'm still a child, not a teenager) and I started learning Russian about 3 months ago... So I'm not a native speaker.
Of course it's great! :D The earlier one begins to learn languages the better. But as far as I know no one here said anything against it.Quote:

By the way, it's great that the day of your registration will be the same as your birthday. :)
Pravit was 12 when he started learning Russian. I was 16 (still am :) ). A lot of kids here started at 15 or 16. And Russians start at the age of 0, so if they can do it, why can't we?:) (yeah, yeah, I know why not, jeez...)
Yes, Jasper, it's good you know your Pravit History
I started at the age of 16 and am 17 now. Its only been 6 months, but I spend much time with a Russian family who speaks english only when addressing me. Even though I have little idea as to what is being said, I am slowly picking up a new word per day (that sticks).
I started with 'pa-ca' but apparently I can't even announciate that correctly. :)
I have enjoyed it.
The next poll will be "Do you know your Pravit History?"Quote:

I'm almost 16)) You can send me e-mails, I'd like to have a pen-friend. I'd be very glad to help you in learning Russian, 'cause I'm Russian-speaking. :oops:Quote:

Wow, I thought for a second that Friendy was back
Can't help wondering, where is Friendy, where is Pravit, where are Propp and Lindsay and other oldies, and what are they doing now...
Jesus, I need to take back my vote, I've gone up a category since this was posted.
I spoke to Lindsey briefly a couple of months ago. She's travelling, she's in SE Asia somewhere just now, though I forget exactly where.
According to his user info Pravit checked the forum a week or so ago!
Pravitt probably saw the topic for "Silly Questions" is now up to 114 pages long and the one about how to get Cyrillic to work on your computer and quickly closed the page!
I'm turning 23 in forty days. Gosh, I'm becoming ancient.
Yeah, what happened to Pravit? He was the only one I knew here who was actively studying Arabic (with remarkable progress, too!)
Я думаю, что это наш Pravit:

Привет всем!
Guess it's been a while. I was checking stats for my blog and noticed a few visits coming from MR :)
I haven't been very diligent in studying Russian (let alone Arabic) alas. I was studying Mandarin pretty intensively for a few years there, and did some traveling around China, especially Xinjiang - lots of posts about that on my blog. Still haven't been to Russia, not sure when I'll go. I'd like to see Uzbekistan and other ex-Soviet Central Asian countries though.
I'd love to catch up with people on MR - my MSN is still the same as it's always been, pravit726 _at_ hotmail.com if anyone wants to add me.
So what has everyone else been doing in the past 5 years, other than beating my one-time record post count?
Wow. It’s a surprise. I joined the forum a couple of months or so before you left it, but I still remember such a remarkable user. Hail to the one and only Pravit! :yahoo:
When I voted on this poll I was 16
